Bikes are objects–not the objective. It is easy to fall in love with the bike's design, the flattering lycra, the striations of muscles. These are all end-results of the sport.
The material aspects of sport are very appealing from the outside, but this is what one must learn to separate from because it is all temporary. Bikes break. More appealing cycling jerseys will be designed. Our bodies will grow old and decline. What remains when we remove all of this are the relationships built and memories made. This is what matters. Keeping this in mind can help us to slow down our minds, grow more patient, and expand the sport to more opportunities of discovery and adventure.
On this day our heart rate straps we left behind, our Garmin's were left at home, and we let our imagination and inspiration take hold of the handle bars.
Don’t forget
that you can't take yourself too seriously. Life is way to short. The frustration felt over an injury or accidentally sleeping in and missing a ride is so insignificant.
Spend a little more time coasting than pedaling on some days, keep your gratitude close to your heart, and enjoy the views–you’ll never have another bad ride again.
