merrick, ny is a quarter of a quarter of the size of manhattan (very small).

That doesn’t mean these people can’t have dreams taller than our city skyscrapers.

Merrick Bicycles was proud to reveal the beginning of their Junior Level racing category.

A handful of determined athletes were present to wet their race pallets for the first time and try and leave their mark on the race course.

Junior racers completed 20 laps, which was half the distance of the adult races.

For many this was their first race.

For some this was just some end of the season laps.

All of them delivered their best effort.

Respect for all

This is the real importance of introducing sport to children at a young age.
It teaches them etiquette.
It teaches them sportsmanship.
It invites them to discover their limits and teaches them the importance of recovery and rest.
It shows them early on how they respond to stress, confusion, failure, and success.
Encouraging the youth to continue their early pursuits of physical and mental achievement will help prepare them for what adulthood presents.
Sport may not be the only metaphor for life but it’s surely one of the best if not the best.

but in the end of the day, kids will be kids.

The challenge of being a parent of a young athlete is making sure their youth comes before the sport. Letting nature run its course is cannot be overstated. Childhood only comes around once.

The woRSt (and best) part about crits is that you can never predict anything.

the best athletes have pre-race rituals to give them the sense that they’re in control.

but this sense of contol only exists in their minds.
no one is ever completely ready for what’s in store.

by a lot…

Maybe it’s time he starts racing in a faster category.

Cycling isn’t about feeling good in the moment.

its about committing yourself to something.

Because it will seriously test one’s limits.

all we can do is wait for our scars to harden and have those be our trophies that we carry with us everywhere we go.

Cycling isn’t about seeking pain.
It’s about but about being reminded of it and facing it over and over again with
the knowledge that there’s no way of overcoming it, just managing it better.

I stand behind what I said earlier.
Sport is the best metaphor of life.

it never gets easier. you only get faster. Ride on.
