if biking in NYC is dangerous I nod my head slowly and say yes.
It’s nearly life threatening.
Here’s how dangerous it is…

These are only reported incidents. Minor incidents that only result in superficial damage to
the car or the bike happen all the time and aren’t reflected here. I’d venture that there an
additional 7,000 incidents per year that aren’t reported.

Consider your bike being stolen.
If your bike is stolen–and unless you have the capability of bringing
your bike into your office or classroom setting you’ve likely had your
bike walk away from you at least once–the NYPD will only allow you
to report the incident if the bike was valued at more than $1,000.
If you are a smart commuter, you won’t purchase a fully-carbon
frame road bike to commute to work unless you want to carry
18 additional lbs. of metal U-locks and chains in your bag to
ensure every part of your bike remains where you left it on the street.
You’ll likely purchase a cheap yet durable bike that you won’t
grow easily attached to that is, for lack of better word, “disposable”
in your mind’s eye. Growing attached to your bike emotionally is
not unheard of nor is it anything you should be ashamed of. When
something we come to rely on in life is taken away without any
notice we feel like the rug is being pulled out from beneath us.
For one, it makes any statistics about bike theft in NYC incredibly
unreliable. Secondly, if every single stolen bike, or bike component
(saddles, light, pedals, front and rear wheels) was reported to the NYPD,
they would have no time for anything else than hunting down thieves.
What the city needs is safer and more accessible infrastructure to that
removes bikes from the public domain where anyone with a pair of
bolt cutters can swiftly make off with your bike. Considering that the
city isn’t even aware of the extent of bike theft theft because of the
minimum $1,000 loophole, any efforts made to improve bike safety
has to come from the public.

Was to capture the story behind the workers who all helped construct the pod. I tried to keep photos of the actual pod to a minimum.
was the scariest part to watch the workers put on the pod, but the most exciting to capture.
Entering the pod is easy and takes the press of a button on their app.
once the light turns green on your phone and on the pod’s reader you can enter
